"Birth of Phi Slama Jama"
Local Historian Robert Boo Lee recalls the Birth of Phi Slama Era and the significance it plays in Houston basketball history and the culture.

A graduate from Jack Yates High School in 1967. Boo Lee worked at the original Black Radio stations in Houston KYOK-AM and KCOH-AM in 3rd Ward on Almeda Road.
It was his boss Rick Roberts, a graduate from Evan E. Worthing High School , Class of 1961 ...from these stations that took a liking to the out spoken Williams and hired him.
He was the 1st black sales representative for the Blue Ribbon sausage Company in the early 70's and helped open most of the Weingartens and later Randalls grocery chain
stores throughout Southwest Houston.
